According to media reports, the latest Dealtracker report published by assurance, tax and advisory firm Grant Thorton showed that USD 4 billion worth merger and acquisition (M&A) deals were witnessed last month driven by higher domestic and inbound deal activity.
The total number of M&A deals for 2016 thus far stands at USD 19.87 billion.
The month of July 2016 saw 44 M&A deals valued at USD 4,083 million, compared to 43 deals valued at USD 2,082 million in the same month a year ago.
Domestic deal activity has registered an exponential growth of more than 8 times annually, making up for over 40 per cent of the overall deal values in July 2016, driven by an improved macro-outlook for Asia’s third biggest economy in the wake of strong progress on stellar reforms such as GST and a robust domestic consumption story.
“On the M&A front, though cross-border deals remained at par with the previous year, there has been a 8-fold increase in value in domestic M&A which contributed over USD 2 billion this month”, Grant Thorton said, the PTI reported.
“We expect a rise in both cross-border as well as domestic M&A, driven by the need for consolidation and this should be primarily seen in the infrastructure and manufacturing sectors”, it added.
