According to media reports, the country’s President Pranab Mukherjee reckons that the Indian economy has the capability to expand at the 8-10 per cent mark over the next couple of decades, firmly establishing its credentials as the world’s fastest growing major economy amidst key structural reforms and a consumer-driven growth model.
“India today stands poised for another leap forward that is predicted to be around India's GDP growth 7.6 percent in 2016-17 and going to have higher growth rate in the coming years. In fact, the Indian economy has the potential to achieve 8-10 percent GDP growth per year over the next couple of decades”, Mukherjee said, the PTI reported.
In a gloomy global environment dogged by a worsening China slowdown, plunging commodity prices and fragile financial markets, India has been touted as the ‘bright spot’ of the world economy by many top world institutions such as the IMF and World Bank.
“One after another the crisis came but despite the unfavourable environment in the international world of money, finance, trade and commerce, India continued to achieve higher GDP Growth rate except a couple of years as the aftermath of this adverse impact in international scenario”, Mukherjee added, the PTI reported.
